As you may have seen from copious social media posts, I attended the Gin Festival at London Tobacco Docks, sponsored by Schweppes. Needless to say it was the most beautiful yet boozy event I have had the pleasure to attend.
“The mission remains the same; great venues, great atmosphere and most importantly great gin. Even better, the festival is constantly evolving in order to keep things fresh and exciting. Explore the different zones including lively bars, a generous and informative brand room, plus creative cocktail bar all under one roof.”
As we arrived we were given a little guide book of the event and a map to aid us round. The guide book consisted of summaries of the various gins available, which bar to go to to get your fave gin and the amazing cocktails on offer. Safe to say the cocktail queue was huge but SO SO worth it, my days, I had (of course) the one with pineapple in, it was DEVINE.
My friend had the damson cocktail, which was equally as glorious, she was very amazed by the fact that they put actual Damson Jam in the drink. Also massive appreciation for the garnishes on every drink we purchased, the preparation was beaut.
As you will notice, we had the same glass throughout the session. Happily you get to keep your glass and bring it home with you if you so wish! Between drinks the bar staff swill out your glass ready for your next gin tasting… I thought it was a nice touch that you could bring your glass home.
Not only can you go to the multiple bars and try copious amounts of gin, they also have a sampling area where you can taste the gins neat and with mixer. This is a great way to find your new loves, not waste your money on ones you don’t enjoy and just get tipsy.
The best part (other than the gin) of the festival was the payment feature. Instead of having to whack your card out every 10 mins for yet another payment, you could simply pay from your wrist. Upon entry to the event everyone gets given a wristband and sent round to the ‘top up tent’, where you put money straight on your wristband. This way the bar staff simply tap the chip on your wristband to take payment.
Honestly, if you’re a gin lover you should definitely go to one of the festivals. It doesn’t just take place in London, there are copious gin festivals all over the UK so you are bound to find one local to you.
