Welcome back my lovelies – today I want to talk all things food, my fave topic of course.
I was kindly invited by The Stable to sample their new summer menu, naturally I jumped at the chance to try their food heaven and I love any excuse to go to Winchester… such a beautiful city.
The Stable is becoming renowned for it’s glorious array of cider, along with the irresistible menu from pizza, to pie, to salad, to vegan options – every thing you could love about a night out you can find at the Stable.
“We’re all about the Pizza, Pies & Cider”

It was a beautifully sunny evening when we popped into the Stable, so all the doors you see to the right were flung wide open, creating a really big and airy feel to the restaurant. The bench theme you see outside continued inside, with all the seating being benches – you could fit about 6 people around them, but they are happy to put as many together as needed for your group size!
The Drink:
To order its bar service, where you are greeted by the lovely staff who will help you with all your cider needs! You will find over 80 ciders and perries to try, from elegant keeved sparklers to rough and ready scrumpies at every Stable you pop in to.
If I wasn’t driving I would definitely have gone for the Cider Tasting Board, where you get 5 1/3 pint serving ciders of your choice – which is amazing! I never knew there were so many different ciders in the world. Instead my partner (who is prone to a fruity cider or two) went for this gem… the Firkin Pomegranate & Raspberry, which was a delight.
Most importantly, the food:
Starter to share: Stix & Dips (sourdough stixs served with butternut blitz, beetroot hummus, mushroom & olive tapenade) – this starter was bursting with flavour from start to finish.
I have to say I’m not an olive fan, but the mushroom and olive dip was definitely my winner, with the others coming a close second! It was a very refreshing and light way to start our meal, with the beautifully crispy sour dough stixs.
Onto the main, and me being me, of course I went for pizza… how could I not? There are a million & 1 options to choose from, with a fully dedicated vegan menu for the vegans amongst us. I went for the Denhay Delight (crispy Denhay Farm bacon, eld mushroom and mozzarella topped with a free-range egg… I added caramelised onion too because that’s just my jam. IT WAS A DELIGHT. In all honesty it tasted a bit like a luscious carbonara on top of a pizza base with the added sharpness of the onions – the dream.
Dan had the Wild Rooster pie, which held a generous helping of chicken, gammon & leek in a tantalising sauce. Served with rosemary and thyme potato wedges, coleslaw and tomato chutney.
Unfortunately Dan had no room for pudding… I on the other hand mustered up the strength to squeeze in some delicious ice-cream (I’m really going through an ice-cream stage in my life atm!). There were plenty of other pudding options on the menu that called to me… the main draw being ‘Heart of Dorset’ which features sugared sour dough stixs, strawberries and a jar of melted chocolate – YUM.
Instead I had 3 scoops of chocolate chip, clotted cream vanilla and strawberries and cream ice-cream to finish off a glorious evening!
I just want to say a big thank you to the Stable for having us, it really is such a lovely restaurant – make sure you find your nearest one!
